My sincere apologies for not posting any new blogs for a couple of weeks. It felt like there were so many things coming at me one right after the other, that I could not even collect my thoughts together for myself, let alone put something into writing that might benefit others.
Over the last couple of weeks loved ones faced illness, the effects of aging, and natural disasters. With each news that came, I felt as if I suffered right along with my loved ones, and on top of that came a feeling of helplessness as well, since distance did not allow me to be of any help to them. I felt shock, fear for the health and safety of loved ones, and sadness for the condition that they found themselves in. We even experienced a few moments of fear for our own safety, when our city experienced a fairly large earthquake as well.
During these last couple weeks I found myself asking the same question the psalmist asks in Psalm 42 and Psalm 43, "Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me?" (Psalm 42:5a / 11a & Psalm 43:5a) I had to intentionally remind myself as the Psalmist does, "Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God." (Psalm 42:5b &/11b & Psalm 43:5b). Let's be honest, sometimes it does take intentional self-talk before we truly do put our hope again in God and fully surrender and accept His will in all things. Then yesterday, as I went on a morning walk with my kids, my gaze rested on the beautiful mountains in the distance. As I took the photo above, I heard clearly in my mind the words of Psalm 121 verse 1 and 2, "I lift up my eyes to the hills -- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth." Those mountains were a reminder for me that the One who made those majestic mountains surely can and will help me through all my troubles and the troubles of all those who put their trust in Him. Remember to ask Him for help in your time of need, even when you don't feel like it. He will always follow through.
